IN ALL THE CONFUSION OF THE RESORT 2017 SEASON, THAT IS MOVING MORE AND MORE AWAY FROM A CLEARLY DEFINED SEASON, WE BARED WITNESS TO WHAT DESIGNERS PUT INTO THE SPOTLIGHT FOR US.
With bomber jackets, off-the-shoulder styles and ruffles still playing a strong game, checks, sportswear and summery layering is reinvented and put into the fore anew. We have collected the top trends of the season that will carry us through come November.
Be it a trend or timeless pattern, designers opt to put checks to the fore this season. Reinterpreting the old classic we spotted it from Christopher Kane to Rosie Assoulin, appearing mostly on coats and standout on a gown at Gucci.
There is no Resort without floral. Last year it was all about exotic prints, this time the flower itself is put into the spotlight, especially rose mallow prints and leaves decorate dresses and jackets from Chanel to Fendi and Moschino, perfectly introduced to us to make us look forward to the holiday season.
Creatively reimagining the tracksuit, designers make us feel comfortable in the convenient trousers that the season has on offer. From workwear-ready versions at Fendi to city-stroll pants at Rosie Assoulin and finally homewear takes at 3.1 Phillip Lim, track pants are having a moment.
For Resort, designers from Hermès to Versace come up with inspiring takes on luxurious sportswear. Whether its polo shirt inspired collars or skirts that could even be worn for a match right away, we are introduced to feminine sportswear, also ready-to-wear beyond the courts.
Within transitional seasons, such as pre-Fall and Resort, it is time to layer up. Therefore it is no surprise that designers took this trend straight into Resort again, showcasing masterpieces of dressy layering and mix-and-match styles. From clashing contrasts at Miu Miu to down-to-earth combinations at Versace and folkloric takes at Louis Vuitton, this trend is here to stay.
Masculine styles have been spotted a lot. Not only this Resort season but also way back into last Fall and Summer collections. Resort sets a different mood though. Menswear goes alongside feminine takes and is worn with bralets, flower chains or even femininely tailored versions. While it was all about the suit last time, this season you can pull off the look however you wish.
