DUE TO HER 23.9 MILLION FOLLOWERS ON INSTAGRAM, KENDALL JENNER HAS CLIMBED HER WAY TO THE TOP OF THE MODELING SCENE AND IS QUICKLY BECOMING MAKEUP ARTISTS AND DESIGNERS’ MUSE OF THE MOMENT. SOCIAL MEDIA MODELING IS THE LATEST TREND STRUTTING DOWN THE CATWALK AND KENDALL JENNER IS IN THE EYE OF THE STORM.

Originally known for her participation in reality television series ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’, Kendall Jenner has been pursuing a modeling career since the age of 14. ‘It Girl’ of the year she has been competing with some of the industries most sought after models, including Cara Delevigne and Karlie Kloss.

Although her experience with the reality TV-Show about her family has given her a boost in the media industry, Jenner has proven she can do it alone by separating her career as a model from the influence her sisters have. Up until this year, Kendall had asked her sisters not to attend her runway shows, so that the spotlight was on her and her achievements instead of who was sitting front row. She has also mentioned several times when questioned about whether her family have helped her achieve her status, that in fact her family’s reputation has been a hindrance rather than a help, as most people wouldn’t take her seriously.

THE JUNIOR YEARS

Born and raised in California, Jenner grew up with a large family consisting of younger sister Kylie Jenner and half siblings, Brandon and Sam Jenner from her father’s side and Kim, Khloe, Kourtney and Robert Kardashian from her mother’s side. At age 14, Jenner was signed to Wilhelmina Models and had her first job modeling for high street fashion brand Forever 21. This led to a shoot with Teen Vogue the following year. In 2013 Jenner's career was going from strength to strength. She signed with The Society Management and walked for her brothers sock line Arthur George for Neiman Marcus. By spring of 2014 she had been selected to walk for Marc Jacobs, Givenchy, Chanel and Giles Deacon across the New York, Paris and London Fashion Weeks. Come fall, her designer base had only grown as she walked for Donna Karan, Diane Von Furstenberg, Fendi and Balmain, amongst others.

THE INSTA-GIRL TREND

Living up to her names sake of Insta-girl, Jenner announced to the social media world that she was to be the new face of Estée Lauder. Within three days of the declaration, Estée Lauder had gained 50,000 new followers on Instagram. Primarily for the older market, but with Jenner at the fore front, Estée Lauder's target market had moved into a more youthful demographic whilst their loyal more mature market would continue to prosper. The example she set with Estée Lauder not only demonstrated the effect of social media but the effect of her social media and what she could do for a brand. This in turn makes her one of the most covetable models of the decade. After a successful stint in the Fall/Winter 2015 Fashion Weeks including walking for Alexander Wang and Oscar de la Renta, Jenner went on to become the face of Calvin Klein Jeans that March.

BUILDING A BRAND

Kendall Jenner has used her namesake to brand two OPI nail lacquers. The Jenner sisters, Kylie and Kendall together, launched a collection with PacSun in 2013 and subsequent lines with Glamhouse later the same year with a jewellery line and a shoe and handbag line with Steve Madden in 2014. Most recently Kylie and Kendall have announced they will be producing a clothing line for Topshop in the near future. With this much impact already, who knows what the future may hold!

1995 - Background

Kendall Jenner is born and raised in Calabasas, Los Angeles. She attends Sierra Canyon School before adopting a home schooling approach with her sister Kylie, in order to focus on her modeling career.

2007 - Keeping up

Reality television show ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ is broadcasted featuring Kendall Jenner.

2009 - The modeling career begins

Jenner is signed to Wilhelmina Models and contracts her first campaign called ‘Rocker Babes With A Twist’ for Forever 21.

2011 - New York Fashion Week

Jenner breaks into Fashion Week by walking for Sherri Hill in New York in September. By the end of the following year she has completed shoots with Kiss, Teen Vogue, Elle, Ok! and Seventeen. These milestones lead to a campaign for Agua Bendita, which she shares with Victoria Secrets model Candice Swanepoel.

2013 - Continued success

Jenner signs with The Society Management and her adventures within Fashion Week flourish. She walks for New York, London, Milan and Paris, and the demand for her involvement in campaigns strengthens.

2015 - The Jenner buzz

Due to the shift in trends within the modeling industry known as Social Media Modeling, Jenner becomes known as the Insta-girl and falls into the same clique as Cara Delevigne, Karlie Kloss and Gigi Hadid. Together they build up their social networks and are known for their live updates on Instagram and Twitter, allowing their fans to feel absorbed in their lives.
