WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE

THE BRAND KENZO DEFIES HIGH FASHION NORMS. DESPITE BEING FAIRLY YOUNG BRAND, THE LABEL HAS BECOME WORLD FAMOUS WITH OVER 270 STORES AROUND THE GLOBE. A FRENCH LUXURY HOUSE FOUNDED BY JAPANESE DESIGNER KENZO TAKADA, THE LABEL IS KNOWN FOR ITS JAPANESE AND ASIAN INSPIRED STYLE COMBINED WITH HIGH FASHION CONSTRUCTION.

In 1970 it all started as a small boutique under the name ‘Jungle Jap’ in Paris at Galerie Vivienne, where Kenzo Takada sold his handmade women’s collection in a boutique that was decorated in a jungle style decor. Six years later, a flagship store was opened at 3 Place des Victoires, and the brand expanded into a full Parisian fashion house.

OUT OF THE JUNGLE

Kenzo debuted its first men’s ready-to-wear collection in 1983, and its kids and home collections four years later. In the beginning of the 90’s, Kenzo joined the LVMH Group and has had remarkable development for a label that started so early on. In 1999, the brand marked its 30th anniversary and the Artistic Director Kenzo Takada decided to retire. After three years of Giles Rosier as creative head, Antonio Marras took over for Kenzo's womenswear. His outgoing personality suited the label perfectly and he continued with the houses traditions creating collections that were bright, colourful and carefree.

NEW TEAM

In 2011 Carol Lim & Humberto Leon, the founders of Opening Ceremony, were appointed Creative Directors of Kenzo. With Humberto Leon and Carol Lim currently head designers of Kenzo, their direction have really shaken up Kenzo’s image. Their iconic tiger sweatshirt and cosmic eye print were instant hits and were much sought-after pieces. They have taken on Takada’s foundation and revolutionary spirit, which inspired the start of the label. With over 270 stores, Kenzo designs for women, men and children's ready-to-wear, fashion accessories, fine leather goods, perfume and homeware. The designer duo continues with Kenzo’s trademarks: creating fun, colourful prints and heavy designs that are met with great success and lusted over every season. As Lim and Leon state: "Kenzo Takada came to Paris from Tokyo with bold new ideas for fashion and established an international company full of vibrant energy and colour. We are thrilled to take Kenzo, a source of great inspiration for us, into the future with our generation and the next in mind."
