Bouchra Jarrar’s name has quietly surfaced in steady strides. With a robust roster of experience at prominent fashion houses, the designer’s work schooling and work ethic have coexisted for years before the launch of her couture brand story. Recently appointed to take the reigns as the newest Artist Director of womenswear at Lanvin, the fashion world is watching Bouchra Jarrar’s direction lead the vision changeover that is set to come.

Jarrar’s education at Duperré School of Applied Arts in Paris launched her into a string of professional experiences that granted their own distinctive education caliber. Fresh out of school in 1994, she landed her first job at Jean-Paul Gaultier’s licensed jewelry department, then as Studio Director at Balenciaga under the direction of Nicolas Ghesquière. Her well honed skills transpired into a position as Head of Haute Couture at Christian Lacroix where she learned the haute craft to take her work to the next level and an acknowledged sense of readiness to launch her vision. With time and strategy as the two most important factors to her name, Bouchra Jarrar’s brand vision has been shaped through precision. Her foremost goal was to establish a solid standing ground through which her brand would root its definition.

At the heart of Bouchra Jarrar’s brand comes a quality and eye for cut and tailoring that has earned her name a quiet, yet much respected buzz. Her brand balances tailleur skills throughout both her ready to wear and couture collections. As a member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture since 2013, her distinctive mark takes a different spin, one which veers away from couture eveningwear norms and narrows in on couture as daywear with sport inclined shapes. Tailoring has been her element with le smoking jackets, tailored pantsuits, and gabardine tuxedo trousers praised with fine cut skill. Among her design distinction, her slow and calculated business growth has been the factor that has carried her name under the radar until recent news.

A new challenge has swept up the respected designer. March 13, 2016, saw Bouchra Jarrar begin her post as Lanvin’s newest Artistic Director of womenswear. Following the potent influence and 14-year tenure of former Creative Director, Alber Elbaz, Jarrar’s first collection for the house will be seen for Spring/Summer 2017. French born of Moroccan descent, keeping with the house codes along with her taste for fine fabric and cut are set to infuse Lanvin’s women’s collection. Jarrar will diversify her design range to allow for venture into categories beyond her own brand offering such as evening wear and leather accessories. Steady momentum has been the undertone of Jarrar’s philosophy and Lanvin’s expression simultaneously counteracts fashion’s fast facts. The announcement lays the groundwork for solidity in craft, one which has become imbedded in Bouchra Jarrar’s business and will undoubtedly transpire into the innovative rigor set forth to pave design innovation ahead.
