NEXT SEASON, LONG GLOVES WILL ADD SOME GLAMOUR WITH A TWIST TO YOUR LOOKS, AS SEEN ON THE RUNWAYS OF PRADA, ALEXANDER MCQUEEN AND DRIES VAN NOTEN.
On the catwalks for Fall Winter designers were contrasting the glamour of opera gloves with the empowerment of casual wear. By using eccentric pastels and, in some cases, ostrich leather, Prada showed us that what was once reserved for the evening wardrobe of elegant ladies is now an eye-catching statement item for the fashion-forward – and a perfect match for this fall’s must-have cropped sleeve coats and jackets.
Dries van Noten demonstrated how to incorporate the sophisticated accessory into our every day look by pairing a khaki military-style shirtdress and combat-inspired trousers with brown leather over-the-elbow gloves, an opulent brocade clutch, and gold sandals. Elie Saab and Dsquared2 also chose to juxtapose elegance and fierceness by combining long gloves in dark khaki or brightest pink with military-style looks.
At Alexander McQueen, long gloves were also given an unexpected twist in bright two-tone color combinations. Although Moschino did in fact combine a set of black satin gloves with an evening gown, the graffitied fabric gave the debutante look a tangible edge. So whether you choose to wear them with a strappy dress or a short-sleeved coat, this fall long gloves will give your daytime look that extra bit of oomph.
