WHILE SOME MAY ONLY JUST FIT YOUR SMART PHONE AND CREDIT CARD, THE STATEMENT ACCESSORIES OF CHOICE SHOWN DURING FASHION MONTH WERE THE MINI- AND MICRO-BAGS. EMBELLISHED, BRIGHTLY COLORED, OR WITH CONTRASTING CHUNKY CHAIN STRAPS, MINI-BAGS IN ALL SHAPES, COLORS, AND TEXTURES ARE A MUST-HAVE FOR FALL.
As seen on the FW 2015 Chanel, Valentino, Miu Miu, Prada, Louis Vuitton, and Fendi runways, among others, handbags are getting smaller than ever this season. Leading the way on this fun-packed trend were Moschino and Dolce & Gabbana. Jeremy Scott took “miniature” to the extreme with some especially miniscule versions in brightly colored quilted leather at Moschino in Milan. These eye-popping micro-bags were carried down the runway on extra chunky chain straps – sometimes several at a time or combined with mini-rucksacks. Dolce & Gabbana showed an array of elaborately embellished miniature size bags, ranging from heart-shaped to boxy to razor-thin. Expertly crafted from mirrored glass, leather, metal, or resembling an antique framed icon, the mini-bags were almost always combined with several more bags, or with a smart phone in a matching embellished case held separately in the model’s hand. The key, it seems, is not capacity here – its quantity.
