PIECE BY PIECE

THE GOOD OLD PATCHWORK TRULY PURSUES A CAREER THIS SUMMER. DESIGNERS FROM MARNI TO VALENTINO ARE IN LOVE WITH WHAT ONCE WAS A HUMBLE HOBBY.

From the traditionally handcrafted quilts to the runways of the fashion capitals, handi-crafts have come a long way. Consuelo Castiglioni of Marni expresses a modest way to mix and match. Prada shows a classic quilt look and proves that piecing a dress together can relax the most elegant of gowns. Proenza Schouler develops the trend with a certain modernity, history is retold with folklore at Valentino, whilst Gucci stays true to the patchwork heritage of the 1970’s. As textile techniques develop towards the future, a stronger nostalgia for the modest bedspread is seemingly sewn in to stay.
