WHAT CAN WE EXPECT WHEN ROMANTIC REFERENCES TURN INTO FASHION FORWARD, ALMOST POETIC TRANSPARENCY? WELL, THIS SEASON’S OPACITY GIVES A CLEAR INSIGHT ON THE LOOK UNDERNEATH, REVEALING A BRAND NEW TAKE ON LAYERING.
Who said we cannot layer up for Spring? The season’s new options offer a diversity of possibilities when it comes to the trend that is supposed to cover it all. While Dior, Vionnet and Rochas sheathe their total looks, Dries van Noten, Loewe and J.W. Anderson play hide and seek, only making the exterior transparency recognisable at a second glance. Prada and Miu Miu top the layering with almost winterly colours and decoration and Margiela on the contrary makes a heavily embellished look appear more summerly again. Whether it’s lightweight, breathable chiffon or airtight vinyl, designers are coating their looks in sheer fabrics, baring and exposing what’s underneath and clearly not to hide and cover. Layering has become an established way of dressing throughout fall and winter, and has now been reinvented for summer, only this time the focus lays on what is carried on top.
