Tight Corsetry

WITH THE RUNWAY SEASON JUST HAVING COME TO A CLOSE, WE TAKE WITH US MANY EXCITING NEW STYLES FOR THE NEXT FALL/WINTER SEASON. OF THESE, ONE OF THE MOST MARKED TRENDS IS THE CORSET.

Presented like a temptress that evokes the secrets of fashion’s past, the current styling takes us firmly to the present and into plain view. Appearing as integrated segments, external additions or as playful references contained in the tailoring, the corset adds a dramatic sense of femininity as well as armour like strength to any outfit.

Balmain and Oscar de la Renta strut into the fall season with seductive corset-body pantsuits, playfully mixing the über-feminine with a touch of masculine. Reem Acra, Dolce & Gabbana and Alexander McQueen conjure up magical slip dresses with lacy corsage tops, highlighting the piping as a clear design element. And merging two seeming opposites into one captivating whole, Prada, Mugler and Moschino add girdles to military and sporty outerwear for a captivating effect. The most tantalising take on this trend piece was however one presented by Loewe and Louis Vuitton. Their leather brazier-like tops worn over flowing dresses are sure to become a season sell-out. Contrasting hard and soft, loose and contained, the look is smoking hot and one of our very favourites out of fashion month.
