SUEDE ALERT

BORROWING A PAGE OUT OF THE COWBOY’S STYLE GUIDE, THIS SEASON HAS SEEN THE RESURRECTION OF ALL-SUEDE FASHIONS. REMINDING US OF 70’S ROCK STYLES, THIS FABRIC HAS BEEN ALL OVER RUNWAYS SINCE FALL/WINTER 2015, KEEPING UP ITS POSITION AS THE HOTTEST TREND WELL THROUGHOUT RESORT AND INTO SPRING/SUMMER 2016.

In tune with the general 70’s flash-back that set the mood for Fall/Winter 2015, suede has been featured heavily for the past few months. Being so much more than just a fabric, it brings with it a range of new possibilities and references. Whether presented with an emphasis on classic elegance as with Hermès or Sonia Rykiel or crafted into exotic and rebellious looks as with Balmain, Loewe or Anthony Vaccarello’s fall collections, suede clearly proves its ability to impress and adapt.

Fall Winter 2015

Maintaining its popularity for Resort 2016, we see a vast range of outerwear, polished silhouette dresses and patterned designs made from suede. Whether preferring Lanvin’s vibrant hues, or Valentino’s amazing beadwork detailing, designers are truly experimenting with the diverse possibilities contained within this fabric. Proving that off-season collections are as (if not even more) important than the big fashion seasons due to their longevity on the store floor, Resort stands out for its experimentation with the versatility of this fabric.

Resort 2016

For Spring/Summer 2016 we see a continuation of fashion’s love affair with the luxurious fabric, confirming its superstar trend status. Marni and Gucci use it to create graphic and two-dimensional looks, while Victoria Beckham, Balmain and Bottega Veneta manage to give the material a casual every-day feel. Hermès, Valentino and Altuzarra on the other hand prove that suede too can seem light and flowing, presenting us with a range of sophisticated maxi-dresses.
