DESIGNERS SEEM TO HAVE TAKEN INSPIRATIONS FROM THE FAR EAST WITH SUBLIMINAL REFERENCES TO ASIAN CULTURE, TO BOLD ASIAN MOTIFS.
Karl Lagerfeld integrated plenty references of the Korean traditions for Chanel Resort 2016, from the hair and makeup to the mother-of-pearl embroideries to the very pleasant Korean pojagi patchwork technique. The well-known Chinese dragon decorated Valentino’s Resort 2016 military style coat and leather jacket with detailed embroideries, and Dolce & Gabbana reconsidered the traditional kimono in pink with floral prints and an embellished obi belt.
Gucci’s Resort 2016 collection is full of embroidered patches that are very similar to Asian icons, while Gucci’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection revisited the famous cheongsam outfit in red silk, as it should be traditionally, with delicate silver flowers embroidered. Marni presented considerable flowers printed on a high collar dress. The colours as well as the quality remind us of the beautiful Chinese paintings. With a belt that could refer to the obi belt over a two-button blazer, and the reinterpreted conical hat, Jil Sander also seems to have added a touch of Asia in his Spring/Summer 16 collection.
