GREAT LENGTHS

HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO TO KEEP YOUR FAVOURITE THINGS WRAPPED AROUND YOU ALL SEASON LONG? THIS FALL’S LONG COATS CARRY THE ESSENCE OF THAT BLISS. IT’S A FULL BODY CHIC CAPTURED IN ONE PIECE.

The streets will see lengths of various traits this fall and Jil Sander opens with midnight velvet and wool panels that balance this coat a step from the brink of a clean devise. Clean white gets slashed and paneled with a Calvin Klein coat on which large metal buttons embellish the classic form. Fendi teases the same detailed variation that has bad gal preppy à la Margot Tenenbaum in big buttons peeking over her leather collar and fur trouser trim. The sturdy side of tailoring sees a Chloé coat with a sweeping hemline and oversized lapels walking a military stride. This season’s long coats cast a protective shield in the midst of a multi-dimensional shift and this coat stays a solid testament to exploring every side of it. Black leather harnesses all and no obscurity at once with a Valentino leather coat that brings dim light to the mystery femme. Where mystery phases out, fantasy turns Dior and Dries Van Noten’s light wool coats into a faint cover, but no cover-up to the slightly futuristic and lavishly floral insignia. Succinct singularity brings The Row’s form into light contrast with a double-faced virgin-wool blend brushed felt Augustus Coat that moves luxury fluidly with a slipper. Sleek in the form of a Pucci coat moves to a Zeppelin track and Peter Dundas could not have bid his last season farewell without the seduction of a slit. Dark elegance sees an Alexander McQueen coat collared with burgundy fur and belted with a leather knot of twisted of silver embroidered roses. Metallic threads go impressionistic with Proenza Schouler’s un-paralleled stripes and the coat’s thickly belted waist and Mongolian wool collar seeks out a similar textural interplay to Marni’s woolen creation. This season’s coats could walk an endless line and in the end Balmain has bombastic chic draped over the shoulders. As the ultimate statement piece this season, structure and luxury has coats of great lengths bound to the substance of one standout sentiment - does it always matter what you wear underneath? In this case, it’s safe to say no.
