AN OVERALL SUCCESS

LONG GONE ARE THE TIMES WHEN THE OVERALL WAS AN ABSOLUTE NO-GO FOR ANYBODY OVER THE AGE OF FIVE. BRINGING A GARMENT THAT HAD ITS FASHION DEBUT IN THE 90’S HIP-HOP SCENE FULLY TO THE PRESENT, FOR FW15 AND RE16 DESIGNERS HAVE RE-ENVISIONED THE OVERALL IN A MULTITUDE OF TEXTURES AND STYLES.

The two-strapped onesie has been morphed into an ultimate fashion item, which, to top things off, has proven to be incredibly versatile. Capable of conveying anything from sophisticated elegance to playful, casual cool, the overall is a clear must-have item destined as a stylish companion for almost all occasions.

As part of the Resort 2016 collection, Valentino presents a loose-legged yet beautifully tailored overall in a miniscule floral pattern that exudes a feeling of youthful elegance. Pair it with a delicate blouse and heels and you have a clear knock-out at hand. Working with different interpretations of the look, we see both super short playsuit lengths as well as the ultra contemporary extra-long, pooling onto the floor lengths that give the style true versatility. Using accessories to push the look into a specific direction, trainers and sandals will convey a more casual aesthetic, while a smart bag and some stilettos will give the look a more glamorous air. Playing with the nuances of masculine and feminine that are contained in the style, both Chloé and Kenzo present loosely flowing overalls that despite being wide, are tantalizingly charged because of the use of body conscious materials. A further stand-out feature of the style is that it allows for some spectacular layering; showing off more or less of a top underneath works just as well as using the overall as a base for some chic top layers. On the whole one thing is clear, if you do not yet have at least one of these kicking around in your wardrobe, it should definitely be a part of your new years 2016 resolution, because these babies are red-hot and should definitely not be missed!
