JUST IN TIME TO NURTURE OUR WINTERY SOULS, DESIGNERS HAVE DISHED OUT A GENEROUS HELPING OF LUSTRE, PRESENTING A MULTITUDE OF BRIGHT AND SHINY GARMENTS THAT ARE SURE TO ADD A SPARKLE TO OUR LOOKS AS WE STEP TOWARDS OUR ANTICIPATION OF SPRING.
In his Resort 2016 collection, Alber Elbaz creates a provocative mix of strong colours and sequins for Lanvin. In bold combinations, such as a floor-length green-and-black striped shimmery dress worn over a leopard print blouse with bow-tied collar, Elbaz manages to pull off incredible combinations of seemingly opposing patterns and textures, but in doing so creates true statement looks. Victoria Beckham also takes a liking to dazzling textures for her early spring collection, combining simple tailoring with paillette fabric. Her version of the black dress as a loose knee-length simple garment is given refinement by her use of sequins to set the look apart. Continuing his flirtation with youth culture and young fashion, Karl Lagerfeld includes fun and colourful looks in his collection that have the signature Chanel touch with a lot of attention to detail. A long-sleeved loose mini-dress worn with Mary-Janes and knee high stockings is particularly captivating, with its Piet Mondrian-like colour pattern rendered alive in a tantalizing application of sequins. Working with a materialisation of the rainbow, Sonia Rykiel envisioned a series of multi-coloured shimmery dresses for her collection, which are both incredibly contemporary as well as being reminiscent of the 1970’s. Her pieces don’t need anything added to them in order to transform the wearer into a beacon of light. These sparkling prospects for our wardrobes are sure to hand the reigns of fun over to whomever enters the room in one of these shiny outfits, the motto for which should be ‘dance like everyone is watching – and love it’.
