THE DIOR SPRING/SUMMER 2016 CAMPAIGN BRINGS TOGETHER A POTENT MIX OF FASHION’S A-LISTERS.
Shot by Patrick Demarchelier, styled by Carine Roitfeld and featuring fashion’s rising star models Roos Abels, Maartje Verhoef, Grace Hartzel and Sofia Mechetner, Raf Simons’ departing campaign is one that demonstrates a sense of perfection and ease brought together as only a member of fashion’s royalty would know how. Taking the form of a series of minimalist portraits set in somber tones and showcasing Simons’ last collection for Dior in a pallet of black and white, the mood is calm and captivating.
Wind gently disheveling the model’s flowing hair, lips parted in a dreamy manner, the images are romantic, innocent and gentle. Like young women indulging in the feeling of endless youth, the depicted pairs and triplets seem to share the secret knowledge of the power that their youth contains. We want to be there, just as much as we want to own the collection. The feelings merge into one, forming a tantalizing sense of longing that surprises just as much as it overwhelms. In this way Raf Simons leaves us with a sly whisk of his magic wand with which he clearly proves that he is the master of understated magnificence and can, with the gentlest of touches, give shape to fantasies, dreams and alluring fashion.
