ALESSANDRO MICHELE IS A COLLECTOR OF MEMORIES AND HIS TAKE ON LAVISH SUBTLETIES HAS EXTENDED THE GUCCI RESORT 2016 CAMPAIGN FROM THE DECORATED CONFINES OF INTIMATE CORNERS.
Shot inside a Florentine villa by Glen Luchford, a hint of social nuance parallels his closely angled campaign images in which detail pops under the collection’s full guise of mixed motifs. Birds of paradise, tigers and Rome’s coveted bumble bees have swayed Michele’s imagination among the antiqued tapestry and vintage set that plays fluidly off the collection’s ornate accessories such as the Dionysus Blooms print leather shoulder bag. Gucci’s Resort 2016 campaign is the second one to revive the Gucci brand under Alessandro Michele’s creative lead and the designer has taken the opportunity to remix the brand’s iconic stripe to drop some heritage among the daydream. The collection’s chevron striped graphics and gold lurex plissé are more than a 70s reference alone. What Michele has done is reawaken images of a youthful kind of innocence to strip back the brand’s overt seduction of years past. Gucci’s new mood drives luxury through an honesty of expression, a return to the novelties of romance through which, in Alessandro Michele’s eyes, likewise celebrates the less apparent gems that scatter throughout the campaign’s color rich saturation.
The images’ soft spoken dynamic has awakened Glen Luchford’s director’s eye in a complementary Gucci Resort 2016 fashion film which aligns the campaign’s innocent mood of individual and collective sparks. A dance sequence fills the villa’s room as the camera slowly circles the four corners to catch Gucci boys and girls moving to their heartstrings. The camera angle shifts midway through and circles at the feet to reveal the collection’s ornate footwear as the girls sway in metallic pink high heeled crossover slides and gold metallic laminate leather loafers. Gucci’s Resort 2016 campaign brings a changing shift to the potency of luxury, an exciting return to multifaceted inner dreams and in Alessandro Michele’s own words, “Luxury means that you show the way you dress with eccentricity. It’s almost like a new kind of jetset – instead of roaming around the world, you’re roaming with your clothes.”
