PRADA’S NIGHT PROWL

WHERE CLUB KIDS QUEUE IN OFFBEAT STREETS, IT’S WORTH CHECKING OUT. PRADA’S GOT THE PASSWORD TO GET YOU IN THE CLUB.

A jump from Prada’s Autumn/Winter 2015 campaign of prim pastels, Resort 2016 switches tracks for a glam-gritty 80s club kid vibe. Makeup by Pat McGrath, hair by Guido and styled by Olivier Rizzo, the background dream team plays up the girls in clothes from the anonymous alley to the shoot’s opening ground. Visible under the stark contrast of Steven Meisel’s photographic direction, his own affinity with the club era resonates fully. Shot against a roller shutter, the shoot unravels as candid snaps give off an impromptu buzz of fast and racy flashes. The shutter’s metal grid comes into the frame and somewhere, sometime, ‘legendary’ feels right. The venue entrance keeps back without a sign or flickering light to give it away. Far back from the street side bravado, the sole whereabouts of this Prada club is word of mouth.

Plastic coats and aprons crop chains and grommets in and out of the queue. Bunny rabbits become the night’s iconographic muse in not-so-random spray painted games along with sharp graphic lines and arrows. Sparkly globes and disc earrings dangle to rock linked headbands, winged eyes and large black paillettes sheen along the involved momentary flash. Lexi Boling, Meghan Collison, Ina Jensen, Lineisy Montero, Julia Nobis, Greta Varlese make up Miuccia Prada’s pack to take on the night.
