TRUE TO ITS BRITISH BRAND IDENTITY, BURBERRY’S CHRISTMAS 2015 CAMPAIGN FEATURES A STAR-STUDDED CAST OF HOMEGROWN ACTORS, MUSICIANS AND MODELS AS WELL AS BURBERRY’S FAVOURITE, THE SPRIGHTLY ROMEO BECKHAM, BRINGING THE CHRISTMAS CHEER TO US IN A SERIES OF FESTIVE MID-AIR JUMPS.
Taking its inspiration from the 15-year anniversary of another British classic, the film Billy Elliot, the campaign recreates the opening scene of the movie in which Billy bounces on his bed to the sound of T-Rex’s ‘Cosmic Dancer’. In this manner, Elton John, who wrote the score for the musical, and Julie Walters, who stars in the movie, are accompanied by other icons of Britishness and British style, all bouncing through the air in slow motion, adorned in a fabulous assortment of Burberry’s heritage and seasonal trench coats made-in-Scotland cashmere scarves.
Michelle Dockery, better known as Downton Abbey’s Lady Mary, the comedian James Corden, as well as musicians James Bay and George Ezra join British supermodel Naomi Campbell and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, as well as her brother Toby, to lift our spirits for the holiday, in the light airy and rhythmic style of the video. Parallel to the shoot, Mario Testino photographed the Christmas campaign stills, creating truly dreamy images. Taking the notion of Christmas spirit to heart and continuing the tradition of charitable support for the local community of Easington, County Durham where the film is set, which was pioneered by the original production, Burberry chief executive, Christopher Bailey, is especially proud of the fact that the entire cast has donated their fees to two charities involved with the County Durham, with Burberry pledging to donate a further £500,000. In this sense, it seems that Burberry has decided to end the year on a literal high-note, which of course will usher in a positive and generous start for the New Year.
