MONSE

AS THE FORMER PRINCIPAL DESIGNER FOR SIX YEARS AND FORMER CO-CREATOR FOR TWELVE YEARS AT OSCAR DE LA RENTA, FERNANDO GARCIA AND LAURA KIM DECIDED TO CREATE THEIR OWN LABEL, NAMED AFTER GARCIA’S MOTHER, MONSE, FOLLOWING THE PASSING OF MR. DE LA RENTA.

Growing up between the Dominican Republic and northern Spain, Fernando Garcia started architecture at a young age to then pursue in fashion, while Laura Kim learned the basic of sewing, pattern-making and sketching in her hometown of Seoul before moving to New York to attend Pratt Institute. The duo started with an internship at Oscar de la Renta and was offered a permanent position not long after. With the craftsmanship and tailoring Kim and Garcia developed during their time at Oscar de le Renta, the pair has everything in hand for Monse to succeed.

Starting with women ready-to-wear Spring/Summer 2016 collection, the line-up showcased mostly shirtdresses in various shapes, colours and textures, elegant and comfortable looking. More powerful, the Fall/Winter 2016 collection is steady, featuring modern feminine garments without putting aside the shirtdresses available this season in a more refined selection. Not only Garcia and Kim have taken their brand new business off the ground, the couple also works along Carolina Herrera as senior vice president for Kim and as consultant for Garcia. No time to rest for the pair!
