Mira Mikati

SPOTTED DURING PARIS FASHION WEEK AND ON CELEBRITIES LIKE BEYONCÉ AND RIHANNA, THE BRAND MIRA MIKATI THAT COMBINES CLEAN-CUT APPAREL AND YOUTHFUL ELEMENTS TOGETHER, USING REFINED FABRICS, ADDS A LOT OF FUN TO YOUR EVERYDAY OUTFIT.

The London based Lebanese designer Mira Mikati initiated herself into the fashion world as co-founder of the Middle East’s leading concept store Plum back in 2007. After successfully designing a capsule collection for Parisian label Façonnable in 2012, Mira Mikati began her own label starting with a cheerful and animated collection. Every single attire from her FW15 collection is filled with colorful amusing emoticons as well as cartoon-like iconographies and lettering. From tailored coats embroidered with playful terms like “WAKE UP!”,“LOOK”, “NO” or “OMG” in vibrant colours to enormous simplified flowers on skirts, the collection offers a variety of pieces including knit turtlenecks, rain parkas with hand-printed smileys, graphic slip-on sneakers and Lego-like clutches.

Mira Mikati takes her inspiration from the works of artists like the well-known illustrator Craig Redmond, also known as Darcel Disappoints, noticeable in the FW15 bomber jacket with icons like the popular one-eyed figure. Along with it, squiggles, googly eyes, flowers, the American flag and more are represented in a simplified design. Other artists including Takashi Murakami, Yoshitmo Nara, and KAWS, one of her favourite artist, continue to inspire Mira Mikati’s collections.

We are curious to see if her lines will always deliver happy messages and be filled with entertaining emoticons.
