Play it McQueen

THE IMAGINED STORY OF A FASHION VISIONARY IS ABOUT TO HIT LONDON’S ST. JAMES THEATRE. A PLAY INSPIRED BY ALEXANDER MCQUEEN’S ‘THE GIRL WHO LIVED IN THE TREE’ COLLECTION WILL TAKE YOU ON A JOURNEY INTO THE DESIGNER’S DARK IMAGINATION.

2015 is the year of tributes to the genius of the late Alexander McQueen. After the release of two books that feature the life and work of the designer and the Savage Beauty exhibition at the Victoria & Albert museum, a theatre play is following, keeping the legacy of the revolutionary designer alive.
The play is described as “a journey into the visionary imagination and dark dream world of Alexander McQueen.” Inspired by McQueen’s Fall/Winter 2008 collection ‘The girl who lived in the tree’, the play deals with a girl stalking the designer’s Mayfair house from a 600-year-old Elb tree, trying to break in and steal one of his beautiful dresses. McQueen’s alter ego catches “the thief” in the act and takes her on a journey through London and into his dark imagination.
Playwright James Phillips wrote the piece in collaboration with members of the McQueen family, such as Alexander’s sister Jane. Instead of taking a biographical direction, he chose to reflect on McQueen’s imagination and inner world. The debut performance will take place on May 12th and as we already know from the Savage Beauty Exhibition, tickets to McQueen events are selling like hot cakes, so you better be fast.
