Max Mara X Architect

ARCHITECTS AND FASHION DESIGNERS HAVE HAD STRAINED OPINIONS OF ONE ANOTHER FOR LONGER THAN WE WOULD LIKE TO ADMIT, BUT IT SEEMS AFTER FRANK GHERY’S LOUIS VUITTON HANDBAG AND NOW RENZO PIANO’S CARRIER FOR MAX MARA, WHAT ONCE WAS A BATTLE OF EGO’S IS NOW A PLATFORM FOR NEW PERSPECTIVES.

Renzo Piano has already charmed the world of fashion with his radical yet adored Centre Pompidou, so it was with no objections from the heel-wearing tribe that an Iconic building such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, in Manhattan’s meat-packing district was to be built by the Pritzker prize winning architect. What came next left us wobbling in our Manolo’s - a limited addition handbag by Renzo Piano Building Workshop. The bag mimics the structural details of the Whitney Museum itself - aptly named the Whitney - and with its icy-grey exterior, and its decadent red interior, it leaves us with very little reason left, not to love an architect who designs a handbag.
