CREATIVE CONVERSION

JUST A FEW HOURS AGO, BOUCHRA JARRAR HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTOR FOR THE WOMENSWEAR DEPARTMENT OF THE ICONIC FRENCH HOUSE OF LANVIN.

Paris Fashion Week has just ended and only a few days after Lanvin released its Fall/Winter 2016 collection, headed by Chemena Kamali and Lucio Finale, the grand news surprised us this morning. Rebuilding on a house’s signature that has been lead not only by a strong vision but also by a distinctive character needs a talent, who can master timelessly chic yet modern style, cuts and fabrics and must have a great technical finesse to respectfully reinvent this business. It was just what Michèle Huiban, chief executive officer of Lanvin, must have had in mind when she explained that Bouchra Jarrar shares the same fashion vision and therefore is just the perfect choice.

“It is a huge honour to continue promoting the Lanvin style, with designs created in the company's ateliers by teams who possess extraordinary expertise. Joining Lanvin meets a desire to expend my creation to wider fields of expression. It is my intention to bring to Lanvin the harmony and consistency of a fashion designed for women, a fashion of our time,” said Jarrar to market sources. While Alber Elbaz oversaw both, the men’s and women’s lines, Jarrar will (for now?) only be responsible for the womenswear department. And one thing should not be left unwritten; Elbaz has invented the symbol of distinctive French elegance with costume-like cocktail dresses and a modernist take on menswear and with Jarrar taking over from Monday on, we dare to say that the Couture-known designer walks in the most sought-after shoes of the current fashion scene, and we are so keen to see if the shoe fits.
