Resurrecting the spirit of the legendary Marchesa Luisa Casati with her limited edition fall-winter 2016 collection, Alberta Ferretti presented a show that was inspirational, extravagant and eccentric. Picking up elements of the dark femme fatal’s style and character, which inspired the world of the early 20th century fashion, Ferretti crafted a show that echoed a sense of complex femininity. Herself believing that “personal attitude is the most authentic means of expression for women these days”, Alberta Ferretti presented a line-up laden with strong pieces. The collection featured blown-up animal prints inspired by Casati’s menagerie of exotic beasts and dresses made of layered lace drawn from the eccentric aristocrat’s obsession with veiling her aging face. Dresses and overcoats feature an impressive over-sized golden zebra print and woven silk tops are enriched with painted cabochon palettes. By adding gem encrusted snake necklaces and belts to a few key looks, Ferretti further underlines the sense of the exotic, wild and slightly dangerous that shapes the theme of the collection. Fabrics are exquisite, designed to give life to silhouettes symbolic of femininity and feature are range of luxurious and perfectly crafted embroidery, laser-cut applications and three-dimensional floral appliqués.
