New York Day 2

THE SECOND DAY OF NEW YORK FASHION WEEK, WAS ALL ABOUT STAGING GLAMOUR, ALL-AMERICAN INFLUENCES AND ONE GRAND PREMIERE THAT WE HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR IN ANTICIPATION.

Jason Wu made ruffles his main topic for Spring/Summer 2016. They appeared in beautifully tailored skirts and blouses with softly frayed edges. As we all know, Wu is a master of tailoring and he satisfied our expectations again splendidly. The big novelty this season was his experimentation with texture and raffia surfaces that gave characterised to the show.

Later that day, an ode to 90s hip hop set the tone and surprised us with the incorporation of soft pastels and ultra feminine shapes. Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs started right there for Spring/Summer 2016. Inspired by the work of painter Kehinde Wiley, the duo aimed at adding touches of luxury fashion to a style that has been rather backstreet until now. Baggy style pants were worn with a body conscious cutout tops while heavy yet feminine chain necklaces completed the outfits. We really hope to see more of this kind of reverse thinking in the future.

At Givenchy, Riccardo Tisci brought Paris to New York for the very first time and set a sign of remembrance on the 14th anniversary of  9/11. Using art and live performances, he turned Pier 26 into a mystical wold set in close proximity to the site of the former World Trade Center. Remembering the losses and celebrating love and life, the designer staged a spiritual show that also payed tribute to his past decade at the House of Givenchy. We could spot dresses from the Couture Spring 2012 collection and artfully decorated faces by Pat McGrath who built upon his Fall/Winter 2015 work. White, Ivory and Black, degraded coloured feathers and a whole lot of lace let everyone stand in awe. This collection could not have been more overwhelming.
